The career ladder still exists in software, but you now need to climb it faster. The gap between junior and senior is compressing in terms of output, but the gap in job security is widening.
"Sales is safe because it's relationship-based"
Partially true. Relationship-based enterprise sales with long cycles and complex stakeholder maps - yes, humans win there.
